Passions and Health
According to Chinese medicine, there are 7 passions
which can affect one's Qi:
Joy Excessive Joy can cause Heart injury, restlessness, nervousness, and loss of
concentration. Prolonged Joyfulness can lead to mental disorder and weird behaviour.
Rage Excessive Rage can cause Liver injury, pallid and green complexion, and Qi
to flow against normal blood flow. Severe rage could lead to high blood pressure, painful eyeballs, and even
lose of consciousness.
Anxiety Excessive Anxiety can cause Lung injury, depression, and impede Lung Qi. Prolonged Anxiety can further lead to Spleen damage.
Preoccupation Excessive Preoccupation can cause Spleen injury, loss of appetite, gaseous
stomach, and soft stool. If prolonged, one will suffer insecurity, mental confusion, loss of memory,
insomnia, excessive number of dreams, and quicken heartbeats.
Grief Excessive Grief can cause Lung injury, depression, and impede Lung Qi. Prolonged Grief can further lead to Spleen damage.
Fear Excessive Fear can cause Kidney injury, dispersion of kidney Qi, mental
disquiet, weak limbs, and incontinent. (Have you ever seen a mouse get stuck
in a glue trap?) Prolonged Fear can cause mental, behaviour, and speech confusion.
Terror
(similar impact as Fear) Excessive Terror can cause Kidney injury, dispersion of kidney Qi,
mental disquiet, weak limbs, and incontinent. Prolonged Terror can cause mental, behaviour, and speech confusion.
Therefore, if you
notice any of the above symptoms, you should avoid irreparable damage to your
body by relaxing and shifting out of those extreme mental states.
